Every year, as the summer starts there are massive fires in the shola forests of the NIlgiri mountains. They can go on for days and spread from one mountain to the other. This image was made a few days after one of these long fires. The ground was covered in ash for kilometers. But the communities that live with this forest believe that these fires are necessary, as they make way for new life.
